Asst. Prof. del Rosario Wins at CCECP in Singapore
Asst. Prof. Julie del Rosario’s oral presentation “Sputtered Palladium-Nickel Bilayer for Electrocatalytic Oxidation of Ethanol in Alkaline Media” wins the Best Student Paper at the 3rd Annual International Conference on Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Chemical Process last January 26-27, 2015 held at the Fort Canning Hotel in Singapore.
During the presentation, Asst. Prof. del Rosario talked about the possibility of using nickel, an otherwise catalytically inactive material, to improve the activity of palladium towards the oxidation of ethanol. This could be explained by the ability of nickel to “increase the active surface area of the Pd layer, provide hydroxyl species to replenish the active sites” and to “protect the Pd layer.”
The goal of the conference is “to foster and conduct collaborative interdisciplinary research in state-of-the-art methodologies and technologies within Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Chemical Process.”
